Publication Ethics and Misconduct

PUBLICATION ETHICS AND MISCONDUCT

Academic Integrity and Ethical Publishing

Jurnal Al-Hikmah: Jurnal Dakwah is committed to maintaining academic integrity, transparency, and ethical standards throughout the scholarly publication process.

This publication ethics policy outlines the responsibilities of authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher in supporting responsible scholarly communication and protecting the integrity of the academic record.

The principles presented in this policy are informed by internationally recognized publication ethics guidance, including recommendations from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHORS

Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal are expected to uphold the highest standards of research integrity and responsible academic writing.

Authors Are Responsible For

Submitting original manuscripts that have not been published previously or submitted simultaneously to another journal.

Presenting research findings accurately, honestly, and without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation.

Properly acknowledging and citing all sources used in their manuscripts.

Ensuring that all listed authors have made appropriate scholarly contributions and have approved the submitted manuscript.

Disclosing relevant funding sources, conflicts of interest, and other circumstances that may influence the research or its interpretation.

Obtaining necessary permissions, consent, or ethical approval where required by the nature of the research.

Responding to editorial inquiries and cooperating with requests for clarification, correction, or revision.

2. ORIGINALITY AND PLAGIARISM

All submitted manuscripts must represent original scholarly work.

Plagiarism, including the unattributed use of another person's words, ideas, findings, or research materials, is considered a violation of academic integrity.

Authors must appropriately acknowledge previous publications, including their own earlier work, and clearly distinguish original contributions from existing scholarship.

Manuscripts may be examined for originality and potential text overlap during editorial assessment.

Suspected plagiarism or substantial unattributed overlap should be evaluated carefully by the editorial team before any publication decision is made.

3. MULTIPLE AND REDUNDANT PUBLICATION

Authors should not submit substantially the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.

Republishing previously published research without appropriate disclosure, permission, or scholarly justification may constitute redundant or duplicate publication.

Authors must inform the editorial team about related manuscripts, previous publications, or overlapping research that may be relevant to the evaluation of their submission.

4. AUTHORSHIP AND CONTRIBUTORSHIP

Authorship should reflect meaningful scholarly contributions to the research and preparation of the manuscript.

All authors should agree to their inclusion, review the final manuscript, and accept appropriate responsibility for the integrity of their contributions.

Contributors who do not meet the journal's authorship requirements should be appropriately acknowledged.

Any authorship dispute or proposed authorship change should be communicated to the editorial team with relevant explanations and supporting information.

5. ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF EDITORS

Editors are responsible for ensuring that editorial decisions are fair, transparent, and based on the academic quality and relevance of submitted work.

Editors Are Expected To

Evaluate manuscripts according to scholarly merit and journal scope.

Maintain confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and editorial communications.

Avoid discrimination and inappropriate influence in editorial decision-making.

Identify and manage potential conflicts of interest.

Select appropriate reviewers with relevant academic expertise.

Consider ethical concerns and allegations of misconduct fairly.

Maintain the integrity of the scholarly publication record.

6. ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF REVIEWERS

Peer reviewers contribute to the quality and credibility of scholarly publications through independent and constructive manuscript assessment.

Reviewers Are Expected To

Evaluate manuscripts objectively and provide evidence-based comments.

Respect the confidentiality of manuscripts under review.

Avoid using unpublished information for personal or professional advantage.

Disclose any potential conflicts of interest before accepting a review assignment.

Identify relevant ethical concerns and communicate them confidentially to the editorial team.

Provide constructive recommendations within the agreed review period.

Reviewers should not contact manuscript authors directly regarding confidential review matters unless expressly authorized by the editorial team.

7. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose relationships or interests that could reasonably influence their scholarly judgments.

These may include financial, institutional, professional, or personal relationships.

The editorial team should assess disclosed conflicts and take appropriate measures to protect the independence and fairness of the publication process.

8. RESEARCH ETHICS AND DATA INTEGRITY

Research involving human participants, personal information, interviews, observations, or sensitive materials must be conducted responsibly and in accordance with applicable ethical and legal requirements.

Authors should obtain informed consent and relevant institutional ethics approval when required.

Research data should be reported accurately and maintained appropriately to support the reliability and transparency of scholarly findings.

Confidential information and personal data must be protected from unauthorized disclosure.

9. PUBLICATION MISCONDUCT

Publication misconduct may include, but is not limited to:

Plagiarism and unattributed copying.

Fabrication or falsification of research data.

Duplicate or redundant publication.

Inappropriate authorship attribution.

Undisclosed conflicts of interest.

Manipulation of the peer review process.

Inappropriate citation manipulation.

Unauthorized disclosure of confidential research or manuscript information.

Other practices that compromise scholarly integrity.

10. HANDLING ALLEGATIONS OF MISCONDUCT

Allegations of research or publication misconduct should be communicated to the editorial team through the journal's official contact channels.

Allegations should include relevant information and supporting evidence where available.

The editorial team should evaluate concerns fairly, maintain appropriate confidentiality, and provide relevant parties with an opportunity to respond.

Where necessary, the editorial team may seek clarification from authors, reviewers, institutions, or other appropriate parties.

Allegations should not be treated as established misconduct without appropriate consideration of available evidence.

11. CORRECTIONS AND RETRACTIONS

The journal recognizes the importance of maintaining an accurate and trustworthy scholarly record.

When significant errors or integrity concerns are identified after publication, the editorial team should assess whether a correction, retraction, or another appropriate editorial action is required.

Decisions should take account of the available evidence, the nature and seriousness of the issue, and relevant publication ethics guidance.

Any published correction or retraction should clearly identify the affected article and explain the reason for the editorial action.

12. COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS

Authors and other interested parties may submit concerns regarding editorial procedures or decisions through the journal's official communication channels.

Complaints and appeals should be considered fairly and, where appropriate, reviewed by individuals who are not directly involved in the matter being examined.

13. PUBLISHER RESPONSIBILITIES

The publisher should support editorial independence, responsible journal management, transparent publication practices, and the integrity of published research.

Administrative or institutional considerations should not improperly influence decisions concerning the scholarly merit of submitted manuscripts.

14. REFERENCES AND ETHICAL GUIDANCE
